Teaching myself to cook, one recipe at a time.

I'm home!

For the last week, I've been grabbing quick, overpriced meals. Lots of Starbucks muffins for breakfast, lots of $9 ham sandwiches from the hotel and lots of excursions to the nearby mall's food court for subs, pasta, or sushi. I can truthfully say that I am so glad to be home and ready to start eating better and for less money.

Last night's dinner was an invention based on the ingredients that I actually had in my kitchen, which is pretty empty. It involved frozen vegetables, chicken broth, garlic, red pepper flakes, and angel hair pasta based loosely on a recipe I found online (the hyperlink function isn't working properly, but here's the URL: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pasta-with-Asparagus/Detail.aspx). Tonight might involve more creativity, as I don't think I'll have time to go grocery shopping for a few more days.

In the meantime, I would like to share my excitement that allrecipes.com has finally supplemented its iphone app with one for android. Finally, I will be able to peruse the site from my HTC Evo, which I am more excited about than you would imagine. I use that site extensively, having saved dozens of recipes and sorting them meticulously in my "recipe box," and everyone who knows me knows that I use my phone for everything from banking to navigation. I think I'll still be printing out recipes so that I can scribble comments and suggestions from reviewers all over them, but it will be nice to be able to quickly call up a recipe that I've made before for a quick reference.

Lots to look forward to. But I have to catch up on schoolwork before I can get active in this blog again, so bear with me!
